During this years Burning Man Festival, a band of “Hooligans” vandalized one of the camps, I find this kind of interesting and I think there’s a lesson involved as well.
Okay, you already know this right? I’ll make it short. Burning Man happens every year in the Nevada Desert, it’s a festival that promotes self-reliance, and artistic expression. I have never been, but it’s definitely on my bucket list.
Camps get setup, and basically a bunch of folks put the brakes on their normal lives for a short time and live in this utopian world for a week.
It’s become more popular, and now very wealthy folks are showing up with pre-fabricated camps, cook staff, and security. This has pissed off some of the old-school ‘Burners’ and this year they decided to do something about it.
Apparently, 200 gallons of water were dumped on the ‘White Ocean’ (re: rich folks) camp, their electrical lines were cut, and they glued shut the doors to some trailers.
I am not judging what happened, just providing some details.
Now think about this, this tells us something you all must already know. In any time of social, or economic crisis, those that ‘have’ and absolutely the targets of those ‘that have not’. Even in something that lasts a week, and is supposed to just be a welcome change from the day-to-day lives we have, even something as casual, and temporary as Burning Man, it’s easy to see that it doesn’t take much for a class struggle to develop.
